Teenage girl diagnosed with rare condition dies at 19 with the bodily age of 152 years old
TikTok star Beandri Booysen has passed away at the age of 19 from a rare disease that causes rapid aging.
TikTok creator Beandri Booysen, who gained recognition for educating people about Hutchinson-Gilford progeria syndrome (HGPS), commonly known as Progeria, has died at age 19.
On Wednesday, December 18, her mother Bea Booysen announced the news of her daughter’s death through social media.
According to Cleveland Clinic, Progeria is defined as “a rare genetic condition that causes rapid aging in children.” The medical institution explains that the condition, which stems from a small genetic mutation, leads to aging symptoms such as hair loss and skin wrinkling, and is ultimately fatal in all cases.
Beandri’s mother shared on Facebook that her daughter’s heart had stopped functioning, posting on December 18 that medical staff were attempting to restart her heart and requesting prayers from supporters.
Tragically, she later shared a memorial post “in loving memory of Beandri Booysen,” confirming her daughter’s death.
The family released an emotional statement announcing her passing:
“It is with deep sadness that we announce the passing of Beandri Booysen, one of South Africa’s most beloved and inspiring young women. Beandri was not only known for her vibrant personality and infectious laugh but also as the last surviving individual in South Africa living with Progeria – a rare genetic condition that causes children to age prematurely.
“Despite the challenges she faced, Beandri radiated hope and joy. She became a symbol of awareness for Progeria and other special needs, using her unique spirit to inspire thousands of people worldwide.”
The statement concluded with a request for privacy during the family’s time of mourning, noting that memorial service details would be shared later.
Following the announcement, numerous supporters and followers have begun sharing tributes and condolences on the post.
Tributes have begun pouring in across social media, with many sharing touching messages of support for Beandri’s family.
“Condolences to all her loved ones! She was a true inspiration,” one Facebook user wrote.
Another supporter shared: “Rest in peace dear Beandri… God’s warrior to the end. To mom, dad, brother, family and loved ones, lots of strength in this sad time, may God hold you all tightly in His arms of comfort. We carry you in our hearts.”
“Rest in peace dearest Beandri. I never knew you, just read about You. Beautiful angel child. Fly high!! Thinking of the family,” wrote a third person, highlighting how Beandri’s impact reached even those who had never met her personally.
